There was a bug in the teacher mass PM system that would send the message subject into the body of the emails sent to the recipients; it has been fixed. Apologies.

We are please to announce that we are launching an API to make it easier for anyone that would like to develop an app to work with UReddit. It is important to note, right off the bat, that the API does not make available any user data that was not already publicly available.

For more information on the new API (including how to use it), check here.

UReddit feature #5: Measure Theory and Lebesgue Integration

June 16th, 2011 Filed under Featured No Comments

Reddit user yesmanapple posted in /r/math a few days ago, asking “Would anyone be interested in a casual one/two week crash course in a particular branch of math?” He decided on “Measure Theory and Lebesgue Integration,” listed his class on UReddit, and is already several lectures in. It’s great to see higher level mathematics being made available with the help of UReddit, and many thanks go to yesmanapple. If you’re interested, the class page is here.

UReddit has started a private filehosting service for classes

April 7th, 2011 Filed under Announcements No Comments

We’ve decided that it would be convenient for many if we were to host files for classes. That functionality has now been implemented.

Unfortunately, we can’t automatically give access to every teacher because then a malicious user would simply have to create a class, set its status to “canceled” so that it doesn’t show in the catalog, and would be able to silently abuse our hosting. Therefore, any teacher that is running a class can request an account for file hosting.

All files will be hosted at http://files.ureddit.com/. If you are leading a class (or have led one in the past) and would like us to give you an account you can use to host your class’ files, please contact us in one of the following ways:

  • Twitter: @uofreddit
  • Reddit: PM user anastas
  • UReddit: PM user anastas on UReddit (must be logged in)
  • Email: anastas-at-ureddit-com
  • Text UReddit’s official phone number: (347) 292-UOFR

You will need an SFTP client such as WinSCP, which is Windows only, though there are OSX and *nix clients as well.

UReddit Feature #4: Week 1 of “Creative Writing: A Technical Approach”

April 7th, 2011 Filed under Featured No Comments

Zenphobia, who goes by the same username on both Reddit and UReddit, has put up the first lecture, available in multiple formats, for his Creative Writing class. He is a professional writer whose work has been published many, many times, so he definitely has a lot to teach us; his first lecture for the UReddit class is impressive. Although the class is closed, the video is available publicly here:

Thanks, Zenphobia, for what is already looking to be a great class! For more information, check the UReddit class page and the reddit he created for his class.
